S.A.F.E. ACT

The S.A.F.E. Act requires all Mortgage Lending Officers (MLOs) to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Once registered, each MLO is provided a Unique Identifier from the NMLS. An MLO must provide this Unique Identifier to each mortgage loan applicant upon request and prior to the employee acting as an MLO.

Meet The Team

Our team of dedicated home loan professionals is here to help you and your family through every step of the home-buying process.

Chelise Newbold

Chelise Newbold

Mortgage Loan Officer

MLO #812534

Chelise has dedicated herself for 20 years to helping people own a home, particularly with first-time homebuyers. Chelise has learned over the years that there is no one best way to finance a home. She treats each member as an individual. That’s what brought her to Seattle Credit Union, whose programs give her the flexibility to provide the right mortgage. She thoroughly prepares applicants for the process, and loves to make the difficult possible – such as the time she managed to secure a loan for a mother unable to work for months due to a child’s illness.

Chelise was born in North Dakota, where her dad was a major at Grand Forks AFB, but grew up in Renton. She thinks the best thing about Seattle is its people and their diversity, which lets her learn about different cultures and backgrounds. Her travels have brought her to Disneyland and Disneyworld – she says, “I turn into a little kid at those places” (which might have to do with how much time she spends with her young nieces and nephews).

If you’re in the market for a mortgage, give Chelise a call at 206.398.5618 or send a message to the team using the form below. She will meet members at any Seattle Credit Union location, or she’s happy to work with members by phone.

Matt Barber

Matt Barber

Mortgage Loan Officer

MLO #194504

Matt is a transplant, originally from Charleston, South Carolina. However, Matt, his wife, and three children moved here in 2015 for all the reasons we love it here – so much to do in town and nearby, the San Juans and Eastern Washington, camping and hiking and the local parks. Matt’s also a basketball fan (he regrets arriving after the Sonics left!), which helps Matt keep his eye on the mortgage ball.

When the housing bubble of 2007 and 2008 burst, it crystallized how large Matt’s role as a mortgage representative is. He focuses on making sure that his customers get the right mortgage decision, which Matt says is just as important as a fast mortgage decision. Matt especially enjoys that he can do that for everyone from an office professional to a laborer, from those needing to refinance or obtain a second mortgage to people buying their first home – like the refinance he recently did for the widow of a 50-year Seattle police veteran. That’s straight out of the credit union philosophy of doing the right thing for members.

If you’re in the market for a mortgage, give Matt a call at 206.402.1236 or send a message to the team using the form below. He’ll do his best to make your mortgage attempt an easy layup.

Mortgage Loan Officer

MLO #1306059

One visit to Seattle was all it took for Penny to know the Emerald City would be her home. A former California and Mississippi native, Penny loves Seattle’s beautiful scenery and relaxing, genuine atmosphere. She brings over 24 years of experience to Seattle Credit Union in both the commercial real estate and mortgage sectors, as well as a passion for serving the underserved: those who have historically been marginalized or never envisioned they’d own a home.

“Every borrower is a story,” she says. “Underdog or not I learn their narrative, who they are, what brought them to this point, and what their dreams are.” In doing this, Penny is able to package personalized products and services to help all members turn their dreams into reality. Her ultimate goal as a loan officer? To build the best home-buying experience possible. “I love it when borrowers tell me they feel like they’re my only client,” she says.

Heather Sanneman

Heather Sanneman

Equity Loan Officer

MLO #686598

Heather never imagined she’d pursue a career in finance. As a child, she told people that she would become a teacher. Her first job as a teller changed all of that. Now, she’s an equity loan officer with over ten years of experience in the banking industry. And while she may not spend her days in a classroom, she relishes the opportunity to teach members about their financial situation and the products and services that will help them meet their financial goals. Specifically, Heather helps members access the equity they have in their home and put it to use, whether it’s a home improvement, paying for school expenses, consolidating debt, and more. She is a trusted resource for members and wants each one of them to reach and maintain financial stability unique to their needs and goals. Heather, along with her entire team, knows the ins-and-outs of the mortgage industry here in Seattle and has successfully guided members through its complexities for years.

Heather knows that her work isn’t just about moving money around – it’s about helping members achieve the unique milestones that will impact their lives for years.

Fernando Arra

Fernando Arra

Bilingual Mortgage Loan Officer

English & Spanish
MLO #1753285

Fernando Arra controls a member’s mortgage application the way he controls the ball as a defender at one of his three soccer matches every week.

Fernando came to Seattle from Argentina in 1999, providing legal services and selling real estate in the Hispanic community, thoroughly familiarizing him with the home buying process. He learned what it’s like to run a business as a self-employed real estate agent, which makes it possible for him to get things done, even if a mortgage application needs extra paperwork. If something looks like it’s going out of bounds, he knows how to save it and move the application ahead to the goal. And he’s used to pressure – he twice played in front of thousands in the finals of the Liga Hispana of the Northwest at CenturyLink Field. (He’s also played against the Sounders. It was practice, but he still stopped the shots.)

There’s more to Seattle than soccer for Fernando, though. He loves that people from all over the world have come to work here, and he loves the scenery. Why, it’s a great place to settle down and buy a house!

If you’re in the market for a mortgage, give Fernando a call at 206.398.5667 or send a message to the team using the form below. He promises to listen carefully to your needs, defend against problems, and help you reach your mortgage goaaaaaaaaaaaaal!

Jen Rizor

Jen Rizor

Mortgage Lending Assistant Manager

MLO #686565

Work your way to the top and you learn everything. At least that’s the case for Jen, who started as a teller, but has since served as a home equity processor, mortgage processor, and underwriter. That’s a lot of years looking at detailed paperwork, learning the tricks that help get the best mortgage possible for the Seattle Credit Union members with whom she works.

Jen finds that matching a member to a mortgage requires the ability to think in a structured way… and yet outside the box. Ask her about her time performing improv and playing games and she might admit what makes her good at one makes her good at the other.

The unique cooperative nature of a credit union also appeals to Jen, who says, “I like that the credit union helps the community, and I think it’s important for us to help others prosper.”

The best part is connecting the dots and helping someone reach a goal. A favorite recent call came from retirees who were excited about seeing whales from the deck of their retirement home. Jen was thrilled that her work made it possible.

If you’re in the market for a mortgage but might need someone who knows all the options and can see solutions that someone else might not be able to, reach out to Jen and her team at the form below. She’ll help you catch your own whale.

Mo Brayton

Mo Brayton

Mortgage Lending Manager

MLO #1747206

Mo Brayton likes a challenge and maybe a little different. Mo grew up between France, Colorado, and Seattle until settling down here for college (University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law). Growing up in Europe made travel easy, which made her familiar with different cultures speaking multiple languages. Challenges? She hikes every weekend with her dogs, Charlie the Great Dane and Eddie the English Lab, and skis, but says the most fun she ever had was in New Zealand, where her “adrenaline therapy” included bungee jumping, Class V rapids, and riverboarding. Oh, she’s skydived, too.

That adventurousness is why Mo clicked with Seattle Credit Union. She’s handled every kind of mortgage over her quarter-century in the business. A tough mortgage application is its own “adrenaline therapy,” but Mo loves to share her story of how she was able to arrange a mortgage for a disabled veteran with poor credit. She and the member met the challenge and secured the loan in just a few months

World traveler Mo loves that Seattle Credit Union is 100% local, starting with Washington customers and keeping the entire process within the state. That’s true even afterward – she’s proud that if there’s a question, she’s right here in town, and Seattle Credit Union’s service department is literally 20 feet from her desk.

If you’re in the market for a mortgage, reach out at today. Mo and her team promise to do their best to keep your mortgage from going all over the map and limit the excitement to saying yes.
