Make a local impact on a global issue

Washington has a legacy of welcoming refugees and fostering their aspirations and goals. Seattle Credit Union is proud to be part of this history as a financial institution that extends support for all of our neighbors, including those who have been here and those recently arrived. Our Community Relations and Public Affairs department engaged with the International Rescue Committee when we learned they were welcoming Afghan refugees who needed a more permanent financial solution than pre-paid cards. Since then, our partnership has strengthened over time as we have continued to collaborate on projects with a shared vision of supporting newcomers to achieve economic wellbeing.  

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian aid organization whose mission is to help people affected by crises to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives. The IRC provides emergency assistance and long-term support to people who have been displaced by war, climate crises, or persecution. Most recently, the IRC has been working here in Washington and in Europe to help Ukrainians seek asylum. More than 6.5 million Ukrainians have been displaced since the war with Russia began. Seattle Credit Union stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
