Seattle Credit Union COO and EVP Tonita Webb Announces Departure for New Role as CEO of Verity Credit Union

February 19, 2021  Seattle Credit Union (SCU) today announced that Tonita Webb, Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President, will depart from the company on April 2, 2021, assuming a new role as the Chief Executive Officer of Verity Credit Union.

Tonita began her career with SCU as the organization’s HR manager, after serving in the Air Force as a security police officer at a time when the role had only been open to women for a few years. Over Tonita’s 16-year tenure with SCU, during which she has risen to become one of the most prestigious leaders in banking while helping SCU grow into one of Washington’s top credit unions, she consistently inspired the highest standards both in-office and beyond, with an unfaltering commitment to driving diversity, equity and inclusion in an industry that is largely homogenous.

Richard Romero, SCU CEO and President, along with the SCU board, would like to express their full support and congratulations as Tonita departs on the next stage of her journey. “We are sad to lose Tonita as a coworker and team member, but happy to gain a friend in our industry. We’re certain that with Tonita as an ally in the credit union space, we’ll be able to continue our meaningful work in a way that even more people will feel the impact,” Romero said.

The team at SCU proudly acknowledges the historic nature of Tonita’s new role as the first Black person, and first woman, to serve as CEO of Verity Credit Union. “We at SCU are no strangers to Tonita breaking through glass ceilings, and we’re collectively celebrating this momentous occasion,” said Romero.

The search for a new COO and EVP will begin immediately, and in the interim SCU leadership will assume responsibilities of the role to ensure 2021 plans and obligations are carried forward without interruption.
